0830 Early muster for participants at HQ, a bit fresh but nice sunny Morning
0900 Depart Via Horrocks Hyw nice sedate drive up through the Clare Valley lead by Ian, one member driving his Holden Kingswood remarked has that leading VW got a super charger booster fitted, he didn’t exceed the 100ks speed limit? At least the vehicles were well spaced out not holding up other road users.
We arrived at the Seven Hills the little Red Grape Bakery for our first stop on time for morning coffee the staff were ready and waiting directing us to our reserved tables the service was quick the pies and cakes on offer were tempting especially the Lamingtons one was enough for two to share.
Time to leave Trevor explained the next part of the journey via the mud map, apparently some drivers or navigators didn’t listen or read their mud maps when leaving the car park driveway four of our vehicles got held up by oncoming traffic and we lost sight of the lead vehicles when we arrived at Clare we were following a car which we thought was one of ours (mistake) so we missed the round about turning we did drive over it which our was we realized we were lost, we did at least get a twice around tour of Clare we finally retched our destination thanks to Trevor giving us street by street directions over the phone. On arriving at our next venue Goode Restorations we were greeted with by the rest of the group with the usual old comments, I just blamed my back seat navigator.
Our host at the restoration workshop was owner Graham Goode, what a fantastic set up with several really expensive $$$$ Veteran cars under long term restoration he had, he gave us a really good run down on how all the timber panels cut and fabricated to fit and how they required all the parts or had them remade he also showed excellent video of all aspects of what was done to the cars in their care, he also allowed us to wander around the workshop looking at all the different machinery required to remake all the panels and parts. Our last visit of the day was to the Clare hotel for lunch, one of our group unnamed decided to put on a floor show, he thought he was back in the Royal Navy after a drinking session he went AoverH, he didn’t see the step lucky a lady at the nearby table which was in the drop zone managed to stop his fall and able to keep him out of her dinner.
Thanks to Ian for organizing a great day out and Dieter for arranging the midday lunch we all appreciated the effort and had a good time.
